Good Thoughts for March

I Trust My Unfolding šŸ€šŸ¤žšŸ½

In partnership with

Happy March! šŸ€

Let’s be real—the idea of March always sounds like the reprieve from those first darker months we’re so desperate to reach. Yet, if you’re in the midwest (like me), the ground might not be fully thawed just yet…

As we watch for those first tender shoots to push their way through the half-melted earth, breaking free from winter's rigid hold, we too may find ourselves in a season of transformation. Truly a month of transition, March whispers of possibility—of softening, breaking open, and letting go to make space for something new. 🌸

Just one week in and we’ve already slowly crawled out of below freezing temps, all the way into the sunny 60s, just to wake up to the return of snow flurries in the air. I’m thinking of this month as nature's own therapy session. It’s easy to be frustrated with the weather, but it’s also fascinating and beautiful when you appreciate it as Earth’s own version of becoming—unpredictable, never a straight line, often a bit messy, but somehow delicate and beautiful.

In this issue, we’re exploring the beautiful chaos of personal renewal: How do we bloom after a season of dormancy? What does it mean to let ourselves be reshaped by growth, and to trust in our own resilience? šŸ’«

Here’s a peek at what to expect:

  1. A form of radical resistance to modern society

  2. Being the CEO of your own life

  3. Monthly Self-Love Challenge

  4. The top 3 things I watched last month

  5. How I’m staying healthy and strong during marathon training

  6. Opportunities for IRL connection!

Mantra of the Month šŸ™šŸ½

ā™” I Trust My Unfolding.

Imagine for a moment what it takes for a seed to become a flower. Underground, in complete darkness, something miraculous happens—without anxiety, without forcing, without a detailed five-year plan. The seed doesn't question its potential; it simply surrenders to the process of becoming. Sounds pretty nice, honestly.

We live in a world that constantly demands immediate results, and I’ve personally been feeling this pressure lately. But what if leaning into the idea of ā€œtrustā€ can be a form of radical resistance to our modern society? It’s permission to grow imperfectly, to start over again and again and again, to embrace uncertainty, recognize that your journey doesn’t have to be linear, and to believe you are always exactly where you need to be.

Easier said than done, but here are a couple of ways you can practice embodying trusting your unfolding:

šŸ’Œ Journaling: create a space to journal about your journey and your progress, whatever it might be. Try using prompts like ā€œWhat small progress have I made recently that I’m not celebrating?,ā€ and ā€œWhat would it feel like or look like to be kind to myself in this moment of uncertainty?ā€
ā™” What this looks like for me: Whether through journaling or meditation, I like to ask myself ā€œWhere am I being impatient with my growth?ā€ and ā€œWhat would it look like for me to exchange this impatience for gratitude?ā€ …or I just have a good cry when these questions are hard to answer, and sometimes that helps too.

šŸ’Œ Visualization: visualization can be powerful whether used specifically or metaphorically. Try leveraging the concept of a flower or plant blooming. Close your eyes, focus on your breath, and imagine you’re a plant growing slowly, steadily, exactly as you should be.
ā™” What this looks like for me: I’ve shared before I practice visualization routinely in the shower! It’s an easy ā€œhabit-stack,ā€ gives me something to do while I’m waiting for my conditioner to soak in, and it immediately extends a sense of calm no matter what’s going on in my day.

šŸ’Œ Gratitude: another repeat tactic, but worth mentioning. Studies show those who practice gratitude are happier and live longer. And it doesn’t have to mean sitting still and thinking hard on the things you’re grateful for.
ā™” What this looks like for me: I often try to redirect my brain in everyday activities to think about what I’m grateful for. For example, earlier this week, as I was walking to my car to drive to a meeting, I realized I loved the car I drive and the meeting I was going to wouldn’t have been possible without the effort I’ve put in over the years. Thanks younger me! 🄹

I’ll be the first to admit I struggle with this idea of ā€œtrust"—I have a natural disposition for positivity (bless šŸ™šŸ½), but it still takes practiced effort to keep going when things feel heavy, or hard. These practices, as much as I sometimes may resist them, always make a profound difference in my mood with instantaneous gratification.

People are increasingly embracing intentional reset moments rather than grand transformations. Sound familiar? (Insert meme of me beating a dead horse). We’re also seeing more emphasis on mental health, both in the news, and in the workplace. šŸ™ŒšŸ½

ā™” Prioritizing MH at Work: 80% of us will experience a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in our lives, and whether we like it or not, work can play a huge role in your overall health and welfare (HelpGuide.org, 2025). Most Americans believe it’s appropriate to talk about mental health at work but may not be prepared or feel comfortable to do so, (National Alliance on Mental Illness, 2024). Last month, I had the privilege to connect with a former colleague, Scott McGohan, who is building an incredible bridge tool for Mental Health in the workplace. One Morning is an authentic mental health engagement catalyst built to drive deep adoption and compelling cultural change by leveraging the stories of real people in a shared workplace. Further, customers in the US are increasingly recognizing the importance of mental health and are seeking professional help to address their mental well-being, with Statista projecting the MH market to reach $11.8 billion this year!

ā™” Tackling the Stigma: ICYMI, The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl this year, and wide receiver AJ Brown received praise for speaking out about his mental health struggles along the way. Brown originally went viral back in 2021 as a member of the Tennessee Titans. You can watch the interview here. But he continued to receive attention throughout this season’s playoffs, during which he was seen regularly reading Inner Excellence on the sidelines, including at last month’s championship game. Brown says the book gives him ā€œa sense of peace,ā€ and hopefully other’s soon agree, because the book went from ranking somewhere in the 500Ks to Amazon’s #1 spot after Brown’s subtle promotion. Even better, just yesterday AP announced the author, Jim Murphy, received a deal for another book. Consider me bought in! I’ll be ordering my copy of Inner Excellence here.

ā™” The Age of Agency: My professional career has been in tech startups, so it’s not uncommon I find myself down a rabbit hole on the latest investment ventures, trends with capital, and general market insights. Recently, I’ve noticed chatter around the concept of redefining personal agency, and how the unreliable landscape of economics, politics, and the general world around us has created a motivation at the individual level to own one’s own story. An article published by the Zeno Group defines this ā€œAge of Agencyā€ as ā€œa shift toward personal control, autonomy and the belief that individuals can shape their destinies amidst uncertainty.ā€ I also loved this perspective from Forerunner on how to Be the CEO of Your Own Life.

Other note-worthy trends worth keeping an eye on…

  • Digital Detox Retreats: Taking short, strategic breaks from technology. Not just by deleting the app from your phone, but by actually attending a physical retreat!

  • Emotional Landscape Mapping: Literally drawing out your experiences, thoughts, and feelings as a form of healing, therapy, or recovery.

  • Holistic Recovery Practices: Graduating from the traditional ways we think of when it comes to healing, such as talk therapy, medication, or exercise, and leaning into more integrated healing practices such as massage therapy, meditation, and through art and music.

Creating Space to Grow šŸ’˜

Whether February for you was all about self-love, Galentines, or celebrating your romantic partner, let’s refocus this month to further emphasize our ability to nurture ourselves as we continue to bloom. 🌷

ā™” Self-Love Challenge: create intentional release.

How can we intentionally let go to create space to grow? Choose one thing—a habit, belief, or pattern—that no longer serves you. Maybe it’s something you know isn’t working in your life, or something you’re interested in trying to improve/change, etc.

Use the following journal prompts to really dig in:
šŸ’Œ ā€œWhat have I been carrying that feels heavy?ā€
šŸ’Œ ā€œWhat would my life look like if I released this?ā€
šŸ’Œ ā€œHow can I thank this pattern for its past protection?ā€

Pro tip: Rituals help if you practice them with intention. Consider writing your release on biodegradable paper and then dropping into water or safely burning it to symbolize letting go.

Then, check in with yourself over the following few weeks to mindfully notice what remnants you’re still carrying or feeling weighed down by. Repeat the process routinely, noticing how things start to fade.

What I’m Loving Lately āœØ

A quick roundup of what’s brought me joy over the past month.

ā™” What I’m Watching:
Apple Cider Vinegar. Honestly shocked that Belle Gibson completely missed my radar during her heyday, given I’ve been somewhat adjacent to the health & wellness influencer space for close to a decade. I personally didn’t receive the retelling as an attack on wellness culture (like some in the wellness community), but instead just thought it was a crazy story about a fraudster who just happened to choose a health/wellness category as her clickbait. I also have to imagine mental health was relevant, but I’m not a doctor.

The Six Triple Eight. I unfortunately feel I didn’t celebrate Black History Month enough this year, but I was glad I stumbled across this movie on Netflix about one of the most incredible untold stories about black women heroism. The Six Triple Eight was the only all-Black, all-female battalion deployed overseas during WWII, and they accomplished a seemingly unachievable (and critical!) mission despite facing both racism and sexism. It was inspiring, empowering, and enlightening, and I cried and cried and cried.

My Old Ass. I have to mention this heart-warming coming of age movie featuring Aubrey Plaza. The story was all at once heart-breaking, hilarious, and uniquely culturally appropriate as it explored the complex emotions that come with growing up. Watch it on Amazon Prime.

ā™” What I’m Reading:
The Great Alone. My first Kristin Hannah book did not disappoint. The Great Alone, inspired by a line from a Robert Service poem, is both a love letter to Alaska, as well as portrays the setting itself as a main character. The story explores survival in both Alaska's unforgiving wilderness, and for Leni, a young girl navigating the difficult balance of remaining loyal to her volatile family while striving for her own independence.

ā™” What I’m Loving Lately:
Recovery Athletics by Strava. This time last spring I was heading to NYC for my 5th half-marathon. Being chic in the city, (aka: walking around in booties and heels šŸ˜‘), I ended up with shin-splints two days before the race. I managed to finish, but I suffered from such severe pain in my shins and plantar-fascia, that after, I could barely walk! With 2025 being the year of my first full-mara, I’ve been really trying to prioritize recovery. I stumbled upon the Recovery app linked directly within Strava and it’s been a game changer! If you already use Strava, it’s free—definitely recommend for any runners to check it out.

🚨 By the way, if you’re in Columbus, you can catch my first two races of the year next month! I’ll be participating in the OSU 4-Miler on April 13th, and the Cap City Half on April 26th. Let me know if you’re running, too! šŸƒšŸ½ā€ā™€ļø
